Honouring our veterans

It’s been 100 years since the guns fell silent on the Western Front.

Today, on the 11th hour of the 11th month, we will take a moment to honour Canadian soldiers who served and died in the First World War and battles since. Canadian soldiers played a vital role in the Allies winning the war, including victories at Vimy Ridge, France, and Passchendaele, Belgium. This year, Veterans Affairs Canada is recognizing the efforts of Canadian soldiers in the last 100 days of the Great War, which was pivotal to breaking through enemy lines and finally ending the conflict. Men and women who serve our country can experience feelings of sadness, anger, frustration and low self-esteem. According to Veterans Affairs, about one-fifth of Canadian veterans are diagnosed with a mental health disorder, most commonly depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). As part of our commitment to research, Tilray partnered with UBC for a clinical trial evaluating the therapeutic potential of medical cannabis as a treatment for PTSD.

You can learn more about research into medical cannabis and PTSD from these peer-reviewed academic papers:

Tilray is proud to serve our veterans, just as they served Canada. We support advocacy initiatives, such as Wounded Warriors Canada's annual Vancouver Island run and B.C.Highway of Heroes Bike Ride, as well as advocates like the late Anthony Dwyer, who did so much for the health of his fellow veterans. You can read more about him and his legacy here.

Veterans registered with Tilray have access to our Bridge program, which will help cover the cost of medical cannabis while veterans are awaiting confirmation of coverage through Veterans Affairs Canada. Tilray’s VAC program will also cover the difference between Veterans Affairs coverage and the cost of medical cannabis, including all dried whole flower and up to 5 bottles of cannabis oil per month.

Tilray also provides specialists in VAC care and billing to our veterans. Contact our 24/7 Patient Services team at 1-844-TILRAY1 or email vacsupport@tilray.ca for support.
