Tilray to absorb federal excise tax in the immediate term
Today, Tilray is announcing that we will absorb the cost of the federal excise tax on medical cannabis, in the immediate term, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018.
You shouldn't have to pay tax on your medicine. Tilray has been actively involved in lobbying efforts to urge the federal government to remove the excise tax - and all taxes - from medical cannabis. Our government affairs team has been, and will continue to be, active in advocating to federal and provincial Parliamentarians to remove these taxes.
Despite the efforts of Tilray and many industry leaders, the federal government is going ahead with the proposed 10% tax on medical cannabis. While we will absorb the tax in the short term, it's not sustainable and it's not a solution to the wider issue.
Tilray will continue to advocate for patients' rights and the removal of taxes, but we need your voice to make the federal government understand that cannabis is medicine. To show your support to remove the excise tax, join the campaign from Canadians for Fair Access to Medical Marijuana (CFAMM) at https://donttaxmedicine.ca.
