Honour the fallen, help the living. That is the mission statement from organizers at Wounded Warrior B.C., who raise awareness and money for programs that support mental health and veterans recovering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Wounded Warrior B.C. is holding its annual relay-style run from tip to tip of Vancouver Island. Seven runners will log more than 600 km in seven days, beginning today (Feb. 19) in Port Hardy and wrapping up Feb. 25 at the legislature grounds in Victoria. The team will stop at communities along the route to raise awareness of their cause.
PTSD affects approximately 8% of the population and can occur at any age. Individuals may experience images or thoughts of a traumatic event through nightmares or flashbacks, triggered by an ordinary, everyday occurrence, such as a car backfiring, that can seem as real as the day the trauma happened.
This is the fifth year of the annual fundraiser, which raises roughly $100,000. Tilray is proud to be the title sponsor of the run as part of our commitment to support Canadian veterans in gratitude for their service to our country.
